...begin transmission... Do sentient beings from other planets in the universe have religion? Have they found some mathematical way to prove God's existence? What if first contact is made not to share information, meet other species, nor even to enslave us or turn us into a food source-- but rather, to convert us? What if it is the opposite? How to you explain religion --or more importantly, faith-- to a creature that has no previous understanding of such a thing? I have been making art in some form since I can remember. My great-grandmother liked to paint desert landscapes from Arizona Highways magazine, and with her help I completed my first oil painting when I was 10 years old. I primarily work with two-dimensional art forms including - but not limited to - oil on canvas, pastel on paper, and digital image manipulation. My favorite images are figurative and/or objective with elements of surrealism. I'm also in love with the process of making books. Lately I have been enjoying the act of modifying found objects, putting glitter on whatever I can muster, and making a mess of the studio with gold dust. My influences come less from the visual arts and more from a wide variety of sources including overheard conversations, sketch comedies such as Kids in the Hall and The State, poetry, music, and Buster Keaton. However, I do love me some Marcel Duchamp, Rene Magritte, and Jenny Holzer. ...end transmission... |
